Paulette's Art
The Art Without Boundaries Program Directed painting therapy for brain stimulation
My name is Paulette Gill, I am an artist and a certified Mneme Therapist (pronounced Nemme). Mneme Therapy® is one to one, individual sessions, using everyday pleasures such as singing, movement, and directed painting for brain stimulation.
As we sing, we encourage renewal of the spirit. as we listen to the words, we check for correct speech and memory of the song, and by gently swinging the arms, we restore circulation and excite both the right and left sides of the brain. this process helps to energize and focus the individual, ensuring a fun, successful, and productive session.
Next we do a variety of hand movements(assessment games) which helps to gather information about the brain. Checking for the client's knowledge of right, left, up, down, slow. fast, and a check of their peripheral vision: a watch on cognitive impairment and receptive aphasia.
Then the fun begins......directed painting! The client chooses a picture in the Imagination book for inspiration. This is the point where we aim for sustained focus and engagement. Turning the the picture around and around as they do the painting exercise which include left to right, bouncing, follow me, and repetitive patterning, just a few examples. When the painting is complete, we turn it right side up. A finished painting! A sense of accomplishment! A sense of being!
My goal is to bring stimulation, meaning, and improve the quality of life for the individual through a mindful, caring, and present practice of directed art.
Joyfully
